The Overlooked Side of Branding: IRL

When we talk about getting your brand out there, most of the conversation tends to revolve around the same few places: your website, Instagram, maybe an email list if you’re feeling ambitious.

But some of my favorite brand moments are actually the little physical things people get to interact with. A really good sticker. A shirt someone would actually wear. Packaging you remember. The little branded thing that ends up on someone’s laptop or water bottle for the next three years.

And I think small businesses sometimes forget how useful those pieces can be for actually getting their brand into people’s hands.

Which is why I’m so excited about Sticker Mule Give – a new giveaway platform.

Give lets you turn products you’ve created through Sticker Mule into an online giveaway. You choose what you’re giving away and how many winners there will be, share the link with your audience, and they handle the annoying parts on the back end- collecting entries, randomly choosing winners, and actually shipping the prizes. Such a cool idea!

And I actually think this could be really useful for small businesses because a giveaway doesn’t necessarily have to be an in-your-face: “GIVEAWAY!!! Win $1,000 worth of stuff!!!”

It can just be a fun excuse to get your brand into people’s hands.

A few ways I’d use it:

  • Launching your brand? Give away a little pack of your new brand elements on stickers.
  • Have branded shirts people are always asking about? Give a few away instead of keeping the entire box in your office forever.
  • Launching a new product or collection? Create a limited sticker or piece of merch to go along with it.
  • Trying to grow your email list? People can enter Give giveaways with their email, so you’re building an audience you can actually reach again later instead of only getting a temporary bump on socials.
  • Or just give your customers something fun.Because people like free stuff. (A groundbreaking marketing discovery 😂)

You can share your giveaway link wherever your audience already is, and Sticker Mule takes care of fulfillment once it’s over- which is especially appealing to me because “personally package and mail 25 T-shirts” is exactly the kind of innocent idea that turns into an entire Tuesday.

I also like that it connects to something I tell clients all the time: your brand doesn’t have to live entirely on a screen. Stickers, shirts, packaging, and all those little physical pieces are part of the brand, too- and sometimes they’re the pieces people actually get to keep.

So if you’ve been sitting on a sticker idea, this might be your sign to actually make it (and maybe give a few away while you’re at it). I personally love Sticker Mule’s die-cut stickers for turning a logo, illustration, or little brand element into its own shape, and their sticker packs are really fun if you have a few different designs you want to bundle together. I’m always a fan of finding more little places for your brand to show up IRL.

Need something worth putting on the sticker first? I can help with that. I design brands—and yes, all the fun stuff that comes after the logo, too.
